Slamming Demian

Hello,

Today, lets read a critique of Demian by someone called "Hazzard"

After reading this, please respond to two perspectives that this person has, concerning the novel. Tell us if you agree or disagree and state the reason. Cite your quotations appropriately. Then respond to a classmate's comment on this.

On Friday we shall discuss Chapter 5 of the book.

Best,

Florence

PS: The image below was made with some vector program I was trying out, recently. I had you all in mind, though. It represents Confidence and Inspiration

Tonight's Homework

After writing your quotation and comments, your homework tonight is to compose a 1-page journal entry discussing the quotation. Relate your ideas to another quotation by John Taylor Gatto in his article "Against School."
If you like, also discuss something in the "Theory" column in the TMM grid (ideal intentions).

:)

PS: If you have not yet bought the novel Demian by Herman Hesse, do it by this weekend. Friday's assignment is to read the introduction and Chapter 1 in that book.

Anxiety Culture

Hey there,

Let's blog about critical perspectives found in the web magazine, www.anxietyculture.com

Looking at the site's table of contents, browse a few articles (except for links in the "Regulars" and "Amusement Arcade" sections). When you find an article you like, read it through and find a (relatively short) quotation that relays a strong perspective.

Returning to this blog, present the title of the article/link and the quotation, introducing it appropriately. If you are unsure about introducing quotations, search the web for tips.

Then discuss the quotation in its entirety, presenting your own critical perspective on what was written.

After that, respond to a post by one of your classmates...

Class in America - Freewrite

Hello class,

To start us off with our class blog, please put down your thoughts about the definition of class in America. Is there a difference between economic class and social class? Also, state where you think the 'working class' fits in, stating what it means.

After posting, please look up the term 'class' and pose any questions to your classmates, using this blog.

Peace!
